On January 14, patrol police of Kyiv city received 249 messages about road accidents. These were caused by the tough weather conditions, namely the major snowfall observed in the Ukrainian capital.
The police claimed that they provided escort of special vehicles to help crews from utility companies clear the roadways from the snow and black ice.
Besides, inspectors of road safety department, reprimanding the officials responsible for the road network status.
The city's utility companies involved 413 vehicles to take away the snow that complicated the road traffic.
According to weather forecasts, the air temperature in Kyiv could drop from -10 to -17 degrees by Celsius in the night from January 15 to January 16. The weekend is likely to be cold, too.
Earlier, we reported that 15 centimeters of snow fell over the night on Pip Ivan mountain in the Carpathians. Ukraine's State Emergency Service recommended that the tourists stay indoors and avoid trips on foot.
"It is cloudy now at Pip Ivan Chornohorsky mountain, and the visibility range is limited down to 30 meters. 15 centimeters of snow fell during the night; the temperature is eight degrees below zero", the message said.
Since the beginning of the year, search and rescue teams picked people off the chairlifts twice, as they stopped in the mountains - in Slavske (74 people) and at Zakhar Berkut mountain (14 people).
