The city clinical emergency hospital in Lviv conducted heart transplantation for the first time. This is the first such operation in Lviv and the third in Ukraine in the past 15 years. About this reported the chief physician of the medical institution Oleg Samchuk on Facebook.
The donor, whose heart was taken, was the 58-year-old resident of Lviv, who received injuries incompatible with life after falling from a height. After trying to save the life of a man, doctors stated that he had a brain death, which is a direct indication for transplantation. His mother and sister agreed to have the organs taken so that they would give other people the opportunity to live.
A 57-year-old resident of Korosten (Zhytomyr region), who was struck by a heart attack five years ago, received a new heart.
“His heart lost its elasticity and could no longer pump blood. The man had no other choice but a transplantation,” Oleg Samchuk wrote.
"Heart was received by 57-year-old Victor from the Zhytomyr region. He used to be a train driver, but he hasn’t been working for 5 years. The heart attack has disabled the man, it was already impossible to cure him, the only way out was to replace it. Victor’s heart was tripled yesterday The ejection fraction is 15. It has barely beaten," said Iryna Zaslavets, head of the IDonor public organization.
Oleg Samchuk noted that such operations are a chance for Ukrainians not to go abroad further, but to have the opportunity to be operated in Ukraine.
