The Chairman of the boxing promotional company Top Rank, Bob Arum, says that he is waiting for promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr. to give him the signal that Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is ready to fight Vasyl Lomachenko, because that is the match that he is willing to make, Boxing News 24 reports.
“Floyd knows that anytime he is ready, we are prepared to make a Lomachenko-Tank Davis fight, but Floyd is a boxing guy, unlike Eddie Hearn,” Arum said.
He also noted that Mayweather Jr. does not want Gervonta Davis to fight Lomachenko until he is sure that Davis has the experience to even be competitive with a Lomachenko.
Arum, however, is not interested in matching Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KOs) against former WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney (24-0, 15 KOs), who as he said is “Wet behind the ears” and has not yet shown that he is capable of being competitive with a fighter like Loma.
“Right now I look at Devin Haney, and maybe there are 10 lightweights better than he is," Vasyl's promoter added.
As we reported earlier, Bob Arum cannot wait to see a unification bout between Vasyl Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez, according to The Ring Digital.
“That is a great fight. It is going to happen this spring. We all are looking forward to it. That is a terrific fight, I cannot wait to see that fight. Maddison Square Garden definitely wants this fight, and I am not going to say that it belongs there, because it would hurt my negotiations. It would be a tremendous accomplishment for Teofimo to beat Lomachenko, but it is not easy to beat Loma,” Arum stated.
