Illegal migration from Belarus to Lithuania has doubled and Belarusian border guards are trying to hide the fact. The head of the State Border Guard Service of Lithuania Rustamas Liubajevas stated this at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defense, as Delfi writes.
Rustamas Liubajevas noted that communication with Belarusian colleagues is not an easy task and noted the impossibility of establishing working contacts with Belarusian colleagues.
"Belarusian border guards do not react to our incidents - when they are presented with strong evidence and arguments in connection with the violation of the border, they do not admit the violation, constantly demand additional evidence, and when we do, refuse to admit the fact," Liubajevas said.
The U.S. and a number of the EU countries demand to stop the flights over Belarus, including the flights to the country itself.
Ukraine stopped air traffic with Belarus on May 26; on May 29, Ukraine closed its air space for Belarusian planes.
This is due to the incident with the plane with Roman Protasevich on board that flew from Athens to Vilnius and was intercepted by a Belarusian fighter aircraft and forced to land in Minsk. The EU stated that the plane of Ryanair Company was forced to land at Minsk Airport due to the actions of the Belarusian military aircraft. CEO of Ryanair Michael O'Leary stated that the forcible landing of Athens-Vilnius flight in Belarus was highjacking backed by the state.
