“Over the past three days, 241 members and supporters of the Islamic State, including 71 men, 63 women, and 107 children, have surrendered to local authorities in the regions of Achin and Mohman-Dara,” reads the message.
Militants also returned 67 weapons.
“Islamic State” is an unrecognized Muslim terrorist state and international terrorist extremist organization.
March 2015, it had control over territory with a population of 10 million people in Iraq and Syria and the nominal control over small areas of Libya, Nigeria, and Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan. The group also operates or has branches in other parts of the world, including in South Asia.
