A large rally against racism took place in the German city of Hamburg, reports Zeit.
Organizers said that about 35 thousand people took part in the action. At the same time, law enforcers named the figure of 20 thousand.
Demonstrators demanded to abandon the deportation of migrants from Germany and advocate for the right of people to protection, migration and asylum.
According to the demonstrators, the rescue of migrants in the Mediterranean Sea should not be considered an offense.
They also demanded the resignation of the head of the German Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the dismission of the federal agency for the protection of the constitution.
Earlier United Nations encouraged countries to participate more actively in resettlement programs. This is reported by the UN News Center.
"To date, it is necessary to resettle 277,000 refugees to the third countries who have found temporary shelter mainly in Greece, Italy, Middle East or Africa," the statement said.
The UN noted that only a few countries expressed their willingness to accept refugees, and in general, the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees received proposals for the resettlement in 2018 and 2019 of only 13,000 people.
In total, 37 states are participating in the projects on resettlement of refugees.
