The Lambda strain of coronavirus is considered more contagious and resistant to the antiviral immunity. It appears to be capable of antibodies, says the research conducted by Japanese scientists.
According to bioRxiv, the Lambda strain is not yet properly studied. However, the available data points out that it possesses two distinct features: it is more contagious than the previously detected strains, and it is also resistant to the immunity.
The scientists claim that the Lambda strain possesses a mutation that enables the virus to dodge the antibodies that are supposed to neutralize it.
The strain was first observed in Peru in 2020. According to the WHO, since then, it was observed in more than 30 countries, mostly in South and North America. Ukrainian doctors have not yet detected a single case of the disease caused by this particular strain.
