Head of Kyiv regional state administration Vasyl Volodin initiated an investigation into illegal actions, namely the intended sabotage of supply of AVL devices and money pocketing. The press office of Kyiv regional state administration reported that on July 1.
The official turned to the National Police of Ukraine, asking them to take action and return 10.5 million UAH (approximately USD 375,000, - 112 International). This money was pre-paid to Lirton-Group company, in exchange for 15 artificial ventilators of lungs.
The ex-chairman of the Healthcare Department in the Kyiv region made this deal with the said company. The devices were supposed to reach hospitals in the Kyiv region in late May, but the supplier did not bring them and kept the money. The responsible official was fired; the police opened a criminal case against him - for abusing power while purchasing medical equipment. The investigation is underway.
Previously, Ukraine's State Security Service (the SBU) documented power abuse cases allowed by certain officials, which resulted in hospitals in Sumy city being undersupplied; only five AVL devices reached the hospitals, instead of 23.
