A farewell ceremony is taking place at the House of Officers in the Ukrainian capital, as people come to say goodbye to Maksym Shapoval. The colonel of Ukraine’s Main Department of Intelligence, veteran of Donbas conflict lost his life in the blast that thundered in Kyiv recently.
Ukraine’s top officials, including President Petro Poroshenko and National Security Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov came to pay tribute for Shapoval. Relatives, friends and colleagues got in line to say goodbye as well.
The powerful explosion claimed the officer’s life in Kyiv on Tuesday morning; two people were wounded and the nearby cars took damage due to the shrapnel from Shapoval’s car’s wreckage.
The Chief Military Prosecutor’s Office looks into the case, putting it as a terrorist act.
