On 30 April, four fan-zones were announced to open for the guests of Eurovision 2017 in Kyiv. “Kyiv 112.ua” editorial team had a stroll over the major locations to check their state of preparedness and advantages.
Kontraktova Ploshcha (Square of Contracts)
Feel Ukraine fan zone is obviously oriented on hosting families with kids. A children’s playset is installed on the scene, animators entertain children. Apart from that one can buy lots of pleasances for kids on the fair – from books with pencils to beautiful dresses. In general not all the attractions are assembled and ready for use as of April 30. However the rest site and the selfie-zone from the hey are ready for the holiday-makers.
The stage with the three screens for Eurovision contests broadcast is in the center of the fan-zone.
As for public services and utilities, there are plenty of lavatories set around the square. First aid room is already working.
Major Eurovision activities will be held on Poshtova Square – karaoke contest of the Eurovision hits of various years. That’s why the fan-zone is called “Eurovision. Retrospective”. Kyiv authorities promised to fully accomplish the repair works and open the walkway of the square by the opening of the Eurovision fan-zone. Sadly, but as of April 30 the construction works are not yet finished and the big building fences together with big sings showing the way to the fan-zone are still in place.
For the record, the construction works were underway on the square – the workers were assembling the stage, laying the grass-plot, cleaning the fountain drains. No lavatories seen. Poshtova Suare is least prepared from all the fan-zones as of the due date.
The fan Zone on the Sofiyska Square was initially announced the biggest and the busiest one. The organizers of the Folk Ukraine project have probably fulfilled their promises better than their colleagues from other fan-zones. Many decorations stayed since the recent large-scale Pysankas Festival. Artists already perform on the stage, even before the opening of he fan-zone itself. The designer pysankas exhibit and the ‘tonnel of wishes’ are in place. The installation with the moving letters to spell Kyiv both in Ukrainian and English and flags of participating countries are now in there at the fan-zone.
Rescue workers and medical workers are on duty already. The pavilions with food and souvenirs already serve the tourists, lavatories are in sufficient quantity.
Eurovision Village on Khreschatyk
The official opening of the Eurovision Village on Khreschatyk is set on May 4. The street is closed for transport for three weeks. The organizers seem to be in time to finish their construction works. The tents are already installed, the food and souvenir stands are being assembled, the stage is ready and waiting for the gear to be installed.
Friendship of Nations Arch
One of the most known symbols of Kyiv was supposed to turn into the rainbow by the Eurovision period to once again prove its’s slogan – Celebrate diversity. Unfortunately, the Friendship of Nations Arch is still half-done and, sadly, there are no workers seen at the scene, but plenty of tourists and Kyiv citizens.
