Kharkiv Mayor Gennadiy Kernes will appeal to the court with a request to restrict the holding of Equality March. This was announced by the mayor on his Facebook page.
According to Kernes, not a single March of Equality in Kharkiv passed calmly. But the City Council has no right to prohibit such events.
“But as a mayor, I am responsible for the calm situation in Kharkiv. Therefore, the decision is to appeal to the court with a request to limit the holding of Kharkiv Pride,” he added.

He noted that a petition on the ban of the event was registered on the city council website, and in a few days gained about 6 000 votes of opponents of the event.
Kernes also emphasized that the law enforcers are also concerned about the Kharkiv Pride - provocations during the parade can happen in the city, which is close to Donbas.
The Kharkiv Pride Equality March, aimed at the defense of equal rights and opportunities for people, regardless of their sexual orientation, is scheduled for September 15, 2019.
One of the participants of Proud Ukraine organization Dmytro Pichakhchi told that the idea of Ukraine’s column in New York parade appeared long ago, but this year they decided they have enough people for that. 20-30 people were supposed to join the column, yet around 50 gathered. Pichakhchi said that “it was important for Ukrainian LGBT-community to march separately from the other countries of post-Soviet space except for Georgia”.
