Olena Zaitseva, the driver who ran over the crowd, killing six people in Kharkiv in October 2017 pleaded guilty. She said this during the Wednesday court session.
‘I admit my guilt, and I’m ready for any punishment the court may impose. Please forgive me. Any sort of substances they found in my blood after the accident is due to the painkillers that I took – because of my health issues. Forgive me,’ she said.
Today, the court chooses the restriction measure for Zaitseva; the prosecution pleads for continuing the detention for another 60 days. For now, she stays in the detention facility in Kharkiv.
As is known, a Lexus ran over a group of pedestrians in Kharkiv, northeastern Ukraine, in October 2017. Olena Zaitseva who drove the Lexus violated the road traffic, crashing into Volkswagen Touareg, which threw her car towards the pavement. Both drivers survived, but Lexus ran over a group of eleven people. Five pedestrians received lethal injuries; another six were taken to a hospital with injuries of various degrees of severity.
Zaitseva appeared to have previously violated road traffic before; she was fined three times for such violations. The court arrested her vehicles and deprived her of the driving license.
