Journalists sentenced to nine years of imprisonment for separatism

Two journalists are sentenced according to the information of the SBU. Earlier they were accused in the creation of the separatist TV Channel ‘Novorosiia TV'. The press service of the SBU reported this.

The judicial panel of Andrushevsky Regional Court, Zhytomyr region sentenced Dmytro Vasylets and Evgen Timonin to nine years of the imprisonment as the propagandists of the separatist TV Channel Novorosiia TV’. The court found them guilty under the part 1, articles 258-3, 258-2 and 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Dmytro Vasylets and Evgen Timonin were detained on the suspicion of creation of the terrorist group in November 2015. According to the information of the special services, they gave informational support to the TV Channel of the militants ‘Novorosiia TV’ and helped to set the broadcast.

Vasylets and Timonin came to Donetsk temporary occupied by the pro-Russian militants at the behest of the so-called state official of the so-called DPR Gubarev in 2014. The men gave the technical, practical and methodical consultations for the creation of the separatist TV Channel ‘Novorosiia TV’.

The SBU officers recorded that in Kyiv Vasylets and Timonin called themselves independent community activists and journalists of one internet edition. Moreover, they were members of the community council of one of the ministry and they were the members of the number of the social councils of other bodies of the state authorities and local self-government bodies.
