This year's ceremony of lighting a Hanukkah candle near the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem was dedicated to Ukraine, the press service of the Israeli Embassy in Ukraine sates on its Facebook page.

"The Chief Rabbi of the Wailing Wall dedicated the ceremony of lighting the Hanukkah candle to Ukraine," the statement reads.

It is reported that Chief Rabbi of the Wailing Wall Shmuel Rabinovitch prayed for the prosperity and well-being of Ukraine during the evening ceremony of lighting the Hanukkah candle, as well as for the blessing of bilateral relations and mutual support between Ukraine and Israel.

It is reported that the honorary right to light a candle on the Hanukkah holiday was given to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine.

Hanukkah is one of the main Jewish holidays, celebrated for eight days. It was established in the II century BC in memory of the cleansing of Jewish shrines on the Temple Mount and the expulsion of Greco-Syrian troops from Judea.

This year, Hanukkah began on the evening of November 28 and ends on December 6.
