The Japanese government decided to impose the entry ban for all foreigners because of the spread of the new strain of coronavirus known as Omicron. The restrictions will be effective since November 30; they are to last for at least 30 days. Fumio Kishida, the Prime Minister of Japan said so as cited by Reuters.

"These are temporary, exceptional measures that we are taking for safety's sake until there is clearer information about the Omicron variant. I'm prepared to bear all criticism from those saying the Kishida administration is being too cautious", the Premier said.

The ban will not concern Japanese citizens who return to their homeland. However, those who were in the countries where the outbreak of Omicron was detected will be required to observe quarantine from three to ten days.
