Nathan Gill, Member of European Parliament in 2014 - 2020, can't believe that the state legislator should decide to try lay sanction on 112 Ukraine TV Channel for showing a religious cartoon on the pretext that it was made in Russia.
"It’s unbelievable to me that the state legislator should decide to try lay sanction on 112 Ukraine TV Channel for showing a religious cartoon on the pretext that it was made in Russia. The question out would be asking if Channel 112 showed an Easter movie that was made in America – would it be sanctioned for that? Is that ok to show American movies? But if really this cartoon wasn't made in Russia somehow is better ultimately?" Nathan Gill said.
"It’s a religious cartoon, it’s a cartoon about Easter, it’s a cartoon about God, it’s a cartoon about our Christian heritage. We all share the same God regardless of where we come from. The president of Ukraine worships the same god as the president of Russia. Surely," MEP added.
MEP says that Christianity has taken a back burner in the Western world.
"I’d need to look much deeper into this to be able to give a full evaluation. But what I do know that when I was a child in Britain every Easter and every Christmas all the TV channels would show religious movies and cartoons and programs. And now they rarely do. Christianity has taken a back burner in the Western world. I hate seeing that happening in Ukraine which is a very devout religious nation. I think the fact that you have a TV channel that is ready to show “Seraphima’s Extraordinary Adventure” religious cartoon should not be sanctioned for that. You should be praised for the fact that you are willing to show a cartoon that reflects your nation’s Christian heritage.
As reported, at the meeting on 23 April National Television and Broadcasting Council decided to assign unscheduled check for the TV channel on the basis of the results of the monitoring of broadcasting, which spotted signs of violations of the norms of the law of Ukraine" On Television and Broadcasting" on air of 112 Ukraine TV Channel.
112 Ukraine TV channel published a statement regarding the cartoon Seraphima's Extraordinary Adventures, expressing regret for groundless criticism of the cartoon broadcasted during Easter TV-marathon "Easter. We are People!"
