Husam Abu Harbeed was liquidated in the northern part of the Gaza Strip. The Israeli military said in a statement that Harbeed had been "behind several anti-tank missile terror attacks against Israeli civilians."
Soon after Harbeed's death, Islamic Jihad said it had fired rockets at the Israeli coastal city of Ashdod, and Israeli police said three people had been slightly hurt.
It is noted that at least three Palestinians were killed in an Israeli strike on May 17.
Gaza health officials put the Palestinian death toll since the hostilities flared last week at 201, including 58 children and 34 women. Ten people have been killed in Israel, including two children.
As it was reported earlier, Israeli warplanes unleashed a new series of heavy airstrikes at several locations in Gaza City early on May 17, hours after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signaled the fourth war with Gaza’s Hamas rulers would rage on. The power distribution company said airstrikes damaged a line feeding electricity from the only power plant to large parts of southern Gaza City.
Since the beginning of the armed conflict with the terrorists in the Gaza Strip (May 10), 3,100 missiles were launched at Israeli territory. At the same time, according to the monitoring of Israel Defense Forces, about 450 missiles fell within the territory of the Gaza Strip. Many failed launches inflicted damage, some led to victims among civilians.
