Iran’s only female Olympic medalist, 21-year-old Kimia Alizadeh, left the country for political reasons. She reported this in her Instagram account.

Kimia Alizadeh won a bronze medal in taekwondo competition in 2016.

The statement said that she was not “the creator of history” and not “heroine”, but “one of the oppressed women of Iran.”

The athlete accused the Iranian authorities of censoring her public statements and emphasized that she has no other purpose than to "engage in taekwondo, be safe and lead a happy and healthy life."

"They sent me wherever they wanted. I wore what they said. I repeated their every sentence. They exploited me when they considered it necessary," the athlete listed the reasons for her dissatisfaction.

According to Kimia, the Iranian authorities rejoiced at her victories, but criticized the sport she chose.

"A virtuous woman should not spread her legs," Alizadeh quoted Iranian sports officials.

As we reported, protests resumed in Iran against the background of the fact that the Iranian military recognized the accidental downing of Ukrainian airlines passenger plane. It is noted that the protesters demand that authorities resign after the plane crash.
