Head of the Iranian Aviation Organization Turaj Zangane assured Tehran's full readiness to negotiate with Ukraine on compensation for the downed Boeing 737. This statement was made on the eve of the next round of negotiations with the Ukrainian authorities, IRNA reports.
"There is no doubt that Iran has accepted responsibility for this mistake, so it is fully prepared to negotiate compensation," Zangane said.
He recalled that Deputy Foreign Minister Mohsen Bakharvand met with representatives of Ukraine. Negotiations on issues related to the Ukrainian plane crash, including the issue of compensation were the key in these negotiations. The next meeting is scheduled in Tehran for October.
As we reported before, Foreign Ministry of Ukraine states Iran is obliged to pay compensation for Ukrainian Boeing 737 downed over Teheran, despite the fact that the plane was registered by European, no Iranian underwriter.
Earlier, Iran refused to pay compensation to Ukraine International Airlines for the plane shot down near Tehran, arguing that the plane was registered by a European insurance company, not the Iranian one.
