Instagram and Facebook announced the blocking of all posts on social networks that promote the so-called conversion therapy - that is, a change in the person’s sexual orientation towards heterosexuality. About the decision of Instagram, his head of public policy in Europe Tara Hopkins said in a comment to CNN.
"We do not allow attacks on people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity, so we update our policies to prohibit the promotion of conversion therapy services," she said.
This decision was made by the social network after an appeal by British users regarding the blocking of the page of the company Core Issues Trust, which in the UK provides conversion therapy services.
Later, in a comment by The Verge, a Facebook spokesman said that blocking content on conversion therapy will affect this social network as well.
Conversion therapy is prohibited in some states of the USA, but not in the whole country. The former British Prime Minister Theresa May promised to ban conversion therapy back in 2018, but this never happened.
