India occupied the third place among the countries with the highest number of Covid-19 infected in the world; thus, it outdistanced Russia, as Deutsche Welle reported.

According to the Indian Health Ministry, on July 5, 24,000 new cases of infection with coronavirus were registered and the total number made 697, 258 cases; 681,000 Covid-19 cases are registered in Russia.

India occupies the third place - behind the U.S. (2.8 million Covid-19 cases) and Brazil (1.6 million Covid-19 cases).

Meanwhile, less than 20,000 Indians died from the coronavirus, which is a much smaller number than in other countries.

Besides, such an increase of the number of infected people affected the decision of the Indian authorities to reopen Taj Mahal. Thus, it will remain closed. Moreover, other cities of India tightened the quarantine measures, which restrict public life, shut down public transportation and only allowed pharmacies to remain open.

As we reported, 239 scientists from 32 countries signed on to the open letter to the World Health Organization (WHO), which states that the WHO underestimates the spread of the coronavirus by air and urges to reconsider its recommendations.
