The number of the incidence cases of measles in January-September 2018 has increased 17 times in comparison with the same period of time in 2017; the Public Health Center of the Healthcare Ministry of Ukraine reported.
'Over the last week, 1,319 people sickened with measles and more than 35,000 got sick since the beginning of the year. During nine months of 2018, the incidence has increased 17 times in comparison with the same period of time in 2017,' the message said.
The analysis confirms that 22,995 affected people were not vaccinated.
As of October 26, 2018, 35,233 cases of the measles were confirmed, particularly 21,468 children and 13,765 adults.
15 people died due to complications of the illness, including 11 children and 4 adults.
The regions with the highest level of the incidence are Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv regions.
As we reported earlier in Rukshyna village, Chernivtsi region, southwestern Ukraine, 45 school students and a pregnant teacher got sick with measles. Later, it turned out that the majority of the affected were not vaccinated.
Moreover, 53 children fell ill with measles in Petranka village, Ivano-Frankivsk region, western Ukraine.
Also, 28 children got sick with measles in one of the Vinnytsia region's schools. The measles outbreak is related to the fact that parents refuse to vaccinate their children.
