The incident took place in Ankara on December 19, 2016, as the diplomat was holding a speech at the ‘Russia as seen by Turks’ exhibition. Altintas, disguised as a guard, shot the ambassador from behind, saying: ‘Remember Aleppo, remember Syria. We won’t leave you alone. Only death stops me. We die in Aleppo, you die here.’ The Turkish police killed him on the spot, having accidentally wounded another three people during the special operation.
