During the previous year, the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) shut down 15 drug labs and seized 1,704 kilograms of drugs from illegal turnover. Besides, the agency seized smuggled items for the total sum of 18.25 million U.S. dollars. The SBU press office reported that on January 21.
"Quite frequently, drugs become the smuggled items. Actually, the workers of the SBU revealed 64 such cases during the year. Among these was a case of transit movement of 750 kilograms of captagon across Ukraine; this is known as the war drug of the Islamic State", the authority said.
The SBU also blocked seven shipments of big loads of cocaine across Pivdenny seaport in Odesa. The drugs were hidden in containers loaded with fruit.
Earlier, we reported that the SBU prevented the smuggling of a record consignment of heroin to the European Union. This was reported by the SBU’s press service.
As a result of a long multi-pronged special operation, the Security Service managed to document the illegal activities of a transnational organized criminal group with Turkish citizens in its composition.
In particular, the Turkish members were the ones who organized the importation of heroin into Ukraine on a ship that arrived at the Odesa Sea Commercial Port in December 2020. The drugs were hidden in a food container.
