40 cases of aggression against journalists registered in Ukraine in 2020

In Ukraine, during first six months of 2020, 40 cases of physical aggression against journalists were observed as the National Union of the Journalists of Ukraine reported.

“During the first six months of the year, the force was used against the journalists 40 times,” the message said. Only in June, the National Union of the Journalists of Ukraine spotted 10 incidents with the use of the physical aggression against the workers of mass media. Three of them are tied with non-observance of the lockdown. The majority of the incidents took place in Kyiv.

As we reported, a journalist group of NewsOne TV channel was attacked during a journalist investigation in the city of Krasyliv of Khmelnytsky region.

Besides, Ukraine rose by six positions and occupied the 96th place in the World Press Freedom Index. Meanwhile, Ukraine deteriorated its score by 0.06 and its index is 32.52: the lower the score the better is the result. Thus, the improved overall of Ukraine’s position took place due to the deteriorating of indicators of other countries.
