Since the beginning of the year, the National Police passed to the court five criminal cases, in which the same suspect was accused of trafficking minors for organs. Artem Kryshchenko, the Head of the Department for Combating Human Trafficking said that as quoted by the press service of the National Police.
'It became known that a man recruited boys under 16 years old. He offered them large sums of money in exchange for becoming live kidney donors for the sick', he said.
Earlier on the same briefing on Monday, Kryshchenko said that the Ukrainian law enforcers have exposed 186 cases of the human trafficking during the six months of 2018.
The majority of the cases, 108 of them, are the sexual exploitation.
"At the moment 156 people, including 91 women, 49 men and 9 under-age and 7 young children, recognized as the victims," Kryshchenko said.
According to him, 144 cases of the human trafficking, including 94 sexual exploitation cases, were spotted in 2016.
'Every year the number of the exposed cases of the human trafficking increases, particularly, the sexual exploitation cases. However, I will note: it does not point to the growth of the criminal in this sphere, it shows that we operatively expose such crimes,' he noted.
