Ukraine’s state security service detained two diggers of radioactive scrap metal. The incident took place in the city of Kropyvnytsky, central Ukraine. The detainees stole scrap iron from the toxic waste site, ignoring the danger signs. They even said they knew nothing about the radiation hazard.

Two months ago, unknown perpetrators used a power shovel to extract the metal from the same waste site. Back then, the police opened a criminal investigation into this case; one of the diggers paid fine in the amount of 53 dollars, the maximum fine foreseen for such violation.
