The police told the details of the incident at one of the polling stations in Borzna, Chernihiv region. Earlier today a man threw flammable liquid in the direction of the voting booth. This is stated by the press secretary of the Chernihiv police Yulia Kovtun, as broadcasted by 112.UA.
According to her, a drunk man came to the polling station, after shouting the threat "I will set you on fire," he took out a liter bottle of flammable liquid and threw it in the direction of the polling booth.
"The fire was immediately extinguished. The policeman detained the arsonist and handed him over to the investigative team. The motives for committing the offense are being established, the voting process continues as usual," Kovtun said.
She added that at the moment the issue of opening criminal proceedings under Art. 296 of the Criminal Code ("hooliganism") is being considered. The sanction of the article provides for 500-1000 non-taxable minimum incomes fine, the maximum - restriction of freedom for up to 5 years.
The National Police of Ukraine received over 25 claims concerning the electoral process in Ukraine.
According to the law enforcers, seven violations were connected with the unlawful agitation, two voters tried to take a photo of their ballot papers in Kirovohrad and Zaporizhia regions, one vote buying case was registered in Zakarpattia region, and the attempt of taking the ballot paper away took place in Zhytomyr region.
Over 700 administrative proceedings have been launched since the beginning of the election campaign.
