Viktor Medvedchuk, the chairman of the political council of the Opposition Platform - For Life party deals with releasing prisoners of war and hostages because he can, but not on anybody’s request or instructions.
“This is not about the exchange, this is about the release. Russian side puts forward demands… Taking into account that I see the possibility that we can return them back even with no reference to the deadlines, I mean this is not about specific years. They may be returned and may come back to their native land, I am tackling an issue, and I’d like to underline that I do it not on request or instructions of Poroshenko or Zelensky. I am doing it because I can do it, and in this case, the standing of our Opposition Platform - For Life party. We have to do it as long as we can do it. We will keep doing it and we hope for success in this issue,” Medvedchuk said on air of the Pulse TV show on the 112 Ukraine TV channel.
The politician has also refused to reveal the details of the negotiations.
“I can and I have no right to speak of the details, because this concerns negotiations between the two sides, me from one side, leaders of the Russian Federation – from the other side. And I’d like to tell you, and I answered this question many times: if there was no chance to return them back I wouldn’t tackle this issue,” Medvedchuk added.
As we reported earlier, Medvedchuk spoke of his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on April 4 to release 22 our sailors and two Security Service employees who remain in Russian Federation.
