A 50-mm hydrogen pipeline depressurized on the premises near the power unit No.3 of Rivne nuclear power plant. A leak of hydrogene occurred without furher inflammation. Ukraine's State Emergencies Service reported that on October 26.
The accident took place at 3.03 p.m. local time. The hydrogen pipeline depressurized. It led to the gas leak, which was quickly patched. No casualties were reported.
Currently, the pipeline is shut down. The Emergencies Service claims no violations of rdiation and fire safety rules. The plant works as scheduled.
19 people and seven vehicles reached the site to assist in repair works.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated that thanks to the “green” hydrogen, Ukraine can become an important supplier of energy to the EU, sidelining Russia. According to the minister, the supplies of hydrogen will allow to enhance the energy safety and economy of Ukraine.
“From all points of view, the development of the hydrogen energy is not just the source of the creation of the alternative source of energy but the big political European project, which can dramatically change the power balance in Europe. For example, Ukraine can replace Russia in relations with Germany, when the issue is about the gas supplies. We should not consider hydrogen as an exclusively economic project, the supply of hydrogen to the EU is a big political project and very serious instrument of the European integration,” he said.
