Bad weather doesn’t leave Odesa region for several days. 34 mm of rainfall fell during one day, which exceeds monthly norm. Forecasters warn that today the rain and the wind will increase.
Odessa City Hall appealed to employers with a request to consider severe weather conditions in the organization of the working process. Kindergartens, schools and universities are operating normally, but a number of institutions still have canceled classes.
There are strong gusts of wind up to 15-20 m/s, and it’s still raining in some areas. Fallen trees, flooded streets and houses are reported in different parts of the region.
The wind almost completely ripped off the roof of the local hospital, and damaged the roofs of another three houses in Desantne village. Flooded houses reported in Olexandrivka and Novoselske villages, Vylkove city and Zatoka resort village.
The strong wind huffed in Odesa. The fallen trees damaged the high-voltage electric power line sewage pumping station. Another tree damaged two cars at once. No one got hurt.
In the Arcadia resort area the crane collapsed because of the strong wind. The crane damaged the roof of a cafe and a parked car. In addition, it cut the contact wire, which temporarily suspended the movement of several trolleybus routes.
Local media have reported about one person killed by a fallen tree. According to media reports, the tree fell on a couple of passing pensioners and killed a woman of 79 years.
The team that liquidates the aftermath of the weather started its work in Odesa, and city utilities have been transferred to the non-stop work.
Traffic is seriously hampered.
Authorities urged residents of Odesa to limit travelling and to be vigilant and not to leave vehicles under trees and power lines.
