This weekend, the solemn events, ceremonies and meetings will take place worldwide to honor those who deceased during the Holodomor, or the Great Famine in Ukraine, which took place in 1932-1933.
According to the Ukrainian Institute of the National Memory, 32 countries will join the events. Canada, for instance, already holds the week of nationwide events, most of them organized and supported by the Congress of Ukrainians in Canada; students of the University of Alberta opened an exhibition dedicated to the tragic episode of the Ukrainian history. The federal parliament of Canada will also hold solemn events on November 29.
Ukraine and other countries pay tribute to those who perished during the Holodomor annually, on the last Saturday of November.
