The Ministry of Health appeals to Ukrainians not to buy surgical masks, because their use will not protect against coronavirus infection. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Health and Chief Sanitary Doctor Viktor Liashko during a briefing that was broadcasted by 112 Ukraine TV Channel.
"Speaking on personal protective equipment (PPE – 112 International.), I would like to emphasize that there was additional conversation with WHO yesterday, which, in turn, spoke with all EU ministers and involved our Ministry in this communication. We are saying that we do not need to use PPE, namely surgical masks when they are not required, as this creates a false confusion of their protection and does not allow using other effective methods of prevention of acute respiratory infections, which include coronavirus infection," Liashko said.
Also, according to a representative of the Ministry of Health, first of all, Ukrainians should know that they need to wash their hands often enough or use the antiseptic.
As we reported earlier, Ukraine's Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk stated about the readiness of over 2,000 hospitals to accept people infected with coronavirus in case, the virus enters the territory of the country, as Interfax-Ukraine informed.
“A plan is developed in each region, submitted to the proper hospitals; specials hospitals are defined with infection boxes – over 2,000 in Ukraine. So wherever the region is in danger, there are people who will respond to it immediately, place a person to the infection box and provide a person with necessary help. The system is ready to respond to such a situation,” Honcharuk assured.
