Ukraine could suffer bad loss of assets unless the government raises salaries for doctors, Maksym Stepanov says

Healthcare Minister Maksym Stepanov believes that the funding of medical branch in Ukraine's 2021 state budget is currently insufficient. He said so on a briefing on December 16.

"The budgeted costs are not enough to fund the medicine", said the official.

He expressed his opinion that the medicine in Ukraine has been always funded based on what remained in the budget, not based on the first necessity principle.

Stepanov also stated that Ukraine could suffer a bad loss of assets unless the government raises salaries for doctors.

"Yesterday, the state budget for 2021 was approved. Our offers that the Ministry had filed, proceeding from their accounts were not taken into consideration. Yes, we see an increase in the total amount of costs to fund the medical branch, but the increase does not mean it is enough to supprot the work of our healthcare system", Stepanov said.

Over the last 24 hours, Ukrainian doctors confirmed 10,622 new cases of coronavirus. 12,549 people recovered during this period. Maksym Stepanov, the Healthcare Minister reported that on Facebook

919,704 cases of coronavirus have been detected in this country since the pandemic began. 535,417 people recovered (+12,549 per 24 hours), and 15,744 (+264) deceased.

Most of the cases were detected in Kyiv (1,858), Odesa region (861), Zaporizhya region (801), Kyiv region (705) and Lviv region (600).
