An increase in the coronavirus incidence due to the Omicron strain is expected in Ukraine. And now the previous wave, caused by the Delta strain, is still coming to an end in the country. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Health, the Chief Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Ihor Kuzin in an interview with Suspilne.
"Sometime in the second half of January and in February, we will see an increase in the incidence of coronavirus infection, which is likely to be caused by the new Omicron strain," Kuzin said.
He also added that as of December 30, only six laboratory-confirmed cases of Omicron strain had been detected in Ukraine. Most of them are related to staying abroad, and the rest - to contact with an infected citizen.
Meanwhile, over the last 24 hours, Ukrainian doctors confirmed 1,863 new cases of Covid-19, including 262 children and 74 healthcare workers.
0 people have been taken to hospitals during this period; 98 patients deceased and 2,259 recovered. 20,588 tests have been taken.
Since the beginning of the pandemic in Ukraine, 3,674,538 people have contracted the disease, 3,477,188 have overcome it, 96,187 have succumbed to it.
