Head of Orthodox Church of Ukraine to be enthroned on February 3

Epifaniy, the leader of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine reported that his enthronement would take place on February 3. The Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine said this during the book presentation by Svyatoslav Shevchuk, the head of Greek Catholic Church in Ukraine. 

Ukrinform news agency quoted the Metropolitan who officially announced that the ceremony would take place on that day.  

Epifaniy invited Syatoslav to visit the ceremony and insisted on further cooperation between the Orthodox and Creek Catholic Chruches in Ukraine.

Earlier, the members of the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate signed the Tomos on providing autocephaly for the newly created Orthodox Church of Ukraine.  

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew passed the Tomos of autocephaly and bishops’ crosier to the Head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine Epifaniy. The event happened during the festive service in St. George's Cathedral in Istanbul. 

In December 2018, the Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Orothodox Church (UOC) of Kyiv Patriarchate Epifaniy (Dumenko) became the head of the local Orthodox Church of Ukraine. The new head of the church was presented by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko after the Unification Assembly in Kyiv.
