The attacks occurred in the historic Old Quebec neighborhood of the city.

The suspect, "a man in his mid-20s," was armed with a sword and dressed in "medieval clothing," Quebec City police spokesman Etienne Doyon said during a press briefing.

The man, who was not identified, was arrested shortly before 1 a.m. and had been "transported to the hospital for evaluation," he said.

Police have not given a motive for the attacks.

"It's a man who was dressed medieval. It's a man who carried a sword with him. It's stab wounds -- that's all we can tell you at the moment," Doyon said.

As we reported earlier, two knife attacks occurred in France on October 29.

In Avignon, the knifeman attacked local policemen. Meduza wrote that citing Europe 1 radio station. The attacker shouted "Allahu Akbar!" He did not hurt anyone. The law enforcers considered the situation a threatening one and opened fire, killing him on the spot. No further details were available.

Another incident took place in Nice. The man attacked people near the local Notre-Dame cathedral. He beheaded a woman, killed another two people, and wounded a few more.
