Hackers from the Rivne region (northern Ukraine) have spread fake information about the alleged emergency at Rivne nuclear power plant. The culprits also stated that residents of Varash town are being evacuated due to the "radiation leak" at the plant.
However, in actuality, the power units are working as usual, and no violations in the plant's work have been observed. The press office of Rivne NPP stated this on September 23.
"As of 12.30 p.m., power units No.1, 2 and 3 are working on the schedule, while power unit No.4 has been on average scheduled maintenance. No violations of limits and conditions of safe use were observed", reads the message.
Radiation, fire safety, and environmental backgrounds around the infrastructure object have not changed and remain within normal limits, the press office said.
The fake information appeared on the server of the NPP's press service, as hackers interfered with the work of the website. Law enforcers are to launch an investigation into this violation.
