By decision of the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, the UN headquarters will be quarantined until the end of May. This was announced by the speaker of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN Oleh Nikolenko in a commentary to RBC.
"The UN headquarters continued the remote mode of operation until May 31. It is a question of both the activities of the secretariat staff and access to the building of accredited delegates," Nikolenko said.
The remainder of the activities at the UN are canceled or rescheduled.
According to the diplomat, international organizations and permanent missions in lockdown will work in the mode of video conferencing, as well as official correspondence.
On March 16, it was reported that the UN Secretary General António Guterres decided to strengthen precautions because of the coronavirus, as a result of which the entire UN secretariat switched to remote work.
Later it became known that at the United Nations, 189 employees were infected with the coronavirus.
