The Foreign Affairs Ministry of Ukraine welcomed today’s approval of the EU-Ukraine visa free regime by the EU Council. The ministry released a respective statement on Thursday, May 11.

‘This step is the last formal decision on the way to visa-free entry of our citizens to the EU territory,’ the message says.

The Ukrainian side hopes that the necessary technical procedures, namely the signature and publishing of the respective deal in the EU, will be completed as soon as possible. That, according to the ministry’s statement, will make it possible for Ukrainians to travel across Europe without visas already this summer.

‘The path to this historical decision was a tough one; at the same time, it proved that by joint efforts of Ukraine and the EU, we can reach the most ambitious efforts. We managed to raise the living conditions of our citizens, so that every Ukrainian can enjoy the benefits of visa-free travels in Europe; we removed barriers for personal and business contacts, for the cultural and educational exchange. It is symbolic that the historical decision was made during the Eurovision in Ukraine, when thousands of EU citizens got this chance to feel the hospitability of the Ukrainian nation,’ the message said.
