The Australian experts estimated the situation in 163 independent states and territories basing on 23 criteria divided into three spheres: level of social security, the extent of the ongoing inner and international conflict and level of the militarization.
‘The results of the GPI 2018 show that the global peace index decreased by 0, 27% in the last year and it became the fourth year of the worsening. The situation in 92 countries worsened and it improved in 71 countries. GPI 2018 shows the world where the tension, conflict, and crisis appeared during the last decade remains to be unsolved, especially in the Middle East and it leads to the gradual, consistent drop of the peace.
Totally, the researchers divided the world into nine regions and only in three of them (Central America, South Asia, Middle East, North Africa) some insignificant positive dynamics is observed. Other six regions (Europe, North America, South America, Asia-Pacific region, Africa, Russia and Eurasia) show significant deterioration.

The most peaceful countries are Iceland, New Zealand, Austria, Portugal, Denmark, Canada, Czech Republic, Singapore, and Japan, Ireland, Slovenia, Switzerland and Australia.
