Garbage dump landslide occurred in Sri Lanka: People died

Rubbish dump landslide in Colombo caused deaths of 16 people, while dozens were injured, according to Reuters.

"The death toll rose to 16 as more bodies were discovered on Saturday, army spokesman Roshan Senivirathna said. At least four teenagers were among the dead, a nurse at the main Colombo hospital told Reuters," agency reports.

According to the information, due to continuous rain the pile of waste on garbage dump began to landslide in direction of residential houses. Waste later caught fire and collapsed on the homes.

The search for survivors as a result of the incident continues, local police say.
