From September 1, 2020, the citizens of Ukraine will need foreign passports for traveling to Belarus as the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported.

It is noted that the regulation of the Cabinet of Ministers 'On the partial stop of the agreement with Belarus on visa-free travels of the citizens' comes into force in autumn.

“Consequently, the new order of travels will start to work; it will allow to improve the protection of the Ukrainian citizens as in case of the loss of the internal passport abroad, the identification of the citizens of Ukraine by the foreign services is long and difficult procedure unlike quick procedures of documentation of travelers in case of loss of the foreign passport,” the message said.

Moreover, the Border Guards predict a significant decrease in time during the pass of the border control of each citizen as the information from the foreign passports is read automatically.

The citizens of Ukraine who live in Belarus might process the foreign passports at the Embassy of Ukraine in Minsk or consulate of Ukraine in Brest.

However, the citizens of Ukraine who do not have foreign passports during the crossing of the border as of September 1, 2020 will be allowed to enter the country on internal passports.

Since March 2020, the Ukrainians without foreign passports are not allowed to cross the Ukrainian-Russian border.
