The Friday prayer was first performed in Turkish mosques during the quarantine period, Anadolu news agency reports.
Taking into account the gradual improvement in the epidemiological situation in the country, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on May 18 that afternoon prayers in the mosques will be allowed for the public.
In the country's mosques, measures were taken to minimize the likelihood of a dangerous infection spreading.
Before collective prayers, all mosques were sanitized. Believers performed the prayer abiding by social distance.
Entrance to the country's mosques has been limited since March 16 as part of measures to prevent the spread of new coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
By decision of the Turkish Religious Affairs Authority, collective prayers in mosques were prohibited.
