The French government has approved a controversial pension reform project, despite protests that have been going on for seven weeks across the country, DW reports.

According to a government spokesman, pension reform is creating a "long lasting, solid" system that will "ensure balanced intergenerational justice, protect the weakest more, restore confidence and restore its value."

Now the draft reform should be approved by the French Parliament.

As part of the planned reform, French President Emmanuel Macron intends to replace more than 40 existing pension systems in the country with a unified one - and reduce the billions deficit in pension funds.

As we reported before, the Security Civil Committee of NATO actively discusses the situation in Ukraine as French Senator from the Republicans Party Joëlle Garriaud-Maylam stated during the meeting with members of France’s Senate, MPs of the National Assembly and representative of diplomatic and business circles.
