French Corsica Island: Man opens fire at passers-by, one dead, several wounded

A man opened fire at passers-by in Bastia city of the Corsica island of France. It has been known that there were at least one dead and six wounded people, as the France3 reported.

A 70-year-old man started to fire at people on one of the streets of Bastia, after which he barricaded at his home.

One wounded person was delivered to the operation hall due to severe injuries, two more persons were under medical examination at the crime scene. The policeman got minor injuries.

Local media cited police sources as saying shortly after the incident that they had ruled out terrorism or robbery as a motive. Reports suggested the man was in a feud with his neighbors.

Gilles Simeoni, the head of Corsica’s government has expressed his sorrow: “Dramatic shooting in #Bastia. We are all, in person or in thought, with the victims and their families,” as Simeoni wrote on Twitter.
