French special services detained a lieutenant colonel suspected of spying for the Russian Federation. This is reported by Europe 1.

"A French army lieutenant colonel stationed at NATO in Italy was charged ten days ago with a security breach. He is suspected of providing top-secret documents or information to an agent of the Russian special services," the statement said.

A lieutenant colonel in the French army was arrested for high treason. The investigation is ongoing.

It is noted that the man was detained by the French Internal Security Service more than a week ago, but the official comment appeared only now.

"I can confirm that we are talking about a high-ranking officer, and a proceeding has been opened against him about an attempt on national security ... We have taken all the necessary precautions. Now it is up to the judiciary," the country's defense minister said.

Earlier it was reported that a former special forces officer of the American ground forces was arrested in the United States on suspicion of conspiring with Russian intelligence and transferring data related to national defense to it.
