The number of foreign tourists that have entered Ukraine this year has almost decreased by four times due to the coronavirus pandemic - 2.7 million in the first nine months of 2020 against 10.7 million in the same period in 2019. This data was reported by the State Border Guard Service at the request of the State Agency for Tourism Development in Ukraine.
At the same time, according to the National Bank of Ukraine, in the first nine months of 2020, foreign tourists spent 27 times less currency in Ukraine than in the same period last year.
In general, for three quarters of 2020, citizens of other countries brought to Ukraine only 244 million dollars, while for the whole of 2019, foreign tourists spent 1.62 billion dollars in Ukraine.
As we reported earlier, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated that Ukraine could close its borders if the Ukrainian government introduced a total lockdown.
"However, with the introduction of a weekend quarantine, we managed to avoid the option of full lockdown, so in the near future, I do not expect consideration of this issue on the session of the government," reads the message.
