The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus commented on yesterday's incident with the Ryanair plane. The Foreign Ministry stressed that the event should be viewed from the point of security, and advised to wait for the conclusions of competent experts. The relevant statement is posted on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

"There is no doubt that the actions of our competent authorities also fully complied with established international rules. The Belarusian side has always complied and complies with them responsibly. This is recognized by the relevant regulators in the aviation sector," the statement said.

The Foreign Ministry also said that they were impressed by "the haste of openly belligerent statements by a number of countries and European structures." The agency believes that the situation is deliberately inflated and politicized, and "the European side does not show a desire to understand it."

In addition, the Foreign Ministry advised not to fall for wrong practices, calmly analyze everything and wait for the conclusions of competent experts, because only on their basis can draw conclusions.

As it was reported earlier, the founder of the largest opposition telegram channel of Belarus NEXTA, journalist Roman Protasevich, was detained in Minsk. The plane with Roman Protasevich on board flew from Athens to Vilnius. Suddenly, the plane gave a distress signal, changed course and made an emergency landing at the Minsk National Airport. The emergency landing was caused by a mining signal.

Later, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen called for swift sanctions after Belarus’s authoritarian ruler forced a Ryanair plane to land in Minsk and detained a prominent opposition journalist.

The US and a number of European countries urged to suspend flights over Belarus.
