The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has confirmed the information about affected Ukrainians in the collapse of the escalator in Rome as the press service of the ministry reported on Twitter.
“The citizens of Ukraine affected in the underground of Rome were hospitalized in one of the local clinics. The injuries they sustained do not pose the threat to their lives. The consul stays in contact with the victims and the medical staff of the clinic,” the message said.
Vasyl Kyrylych, the Head of Department of Consular Support reported to Hromadske that four Ukrainians suffered in the collapse of the escalator.
As we reported on October 23, an escalator collapsed in Rome's underground, inflicting injuries on a number of people. Among the casualties were football fans from Ukraine and Russia.
The incident occurred at Repubblica underground station when a crowd of fans used the escalator. About 30 people suffered, two of them ended up in a surgery. One man had his foot cut off in the accident.
